Harry and Meghan Face Backlash as Residents Label Them 'Local Villains' in Latest Report
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle faced fresh criticism following a report revealing details about their life in California.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were labeled “the most entitled, disingenuous people on the planet” by some Montecito locals, who blamed them for turning the area into a tourist hotspot and inflating housing prices. After leaving the Royal Family in 2020, the couple moved to the upscale California neighborhood, but their presence has reportedly caused tension among residents.
One resident claimed the couple left the UK to avoid media scrutiny but instead sought publicity in the US. Another accused Meghan of trying to “monetize” Montecito by naming her lifestyle brand “American Riviera Orchard,” referencing the local nickname.
Despite the backlash, actress Sharon Stone defended the pair, praising their efforts to integrate into the community and their support during recent wildfires. She described them as caring and involved neighbors who contribute meaningfully to local life.
However, their public appearances have also drawn criticism, with some accusing them of being "disaster tourists." Royal expert Jennie Bond expressed concern over the relentless scrutiny the couple faces, calling much of it unfair and disproportionate.
