Vick Hope Discusses Race and Mental Health Before Wedding to Calvin Harris

In an impressive photo session with Arcadia, Vick Hope seemed fully prepared for her wedding to DJ Calvin Haris. The 33-year-old radio personality looked stunning as she displayed two white dresses for the digital cover feature. In this feature, she openly discussed subjects like racial diversity and her friend's heartbreaking suicide.

Vick, born to a Geordie father and a Nigerian Igbo mother, was brought up in Newcastle. She shared her personal experiences of being a mixed-race person and stressed the need for open conversations, regardless of one's background.

While hosting the BBC Sounds program Songs to Live By, which honors black culture, Vick dedicated her efforts to uplifting the voices of black people.

She said, “We discussed challenges, everything from Civil Rights to the Windrush, and tried to understand the hurdles our older guests had faced and the challenges our younger guests were still facing – we tried to comprehend how much progress we have made and how much more is needed, our origins with a double o and our paths with you.”

Vick was also keen on shedding light on important topics through her show Life Hacks, with the first episode concentrating on suicide, which held a personal connection for her as she had lost a friend to suicide.

During that episode, Vick talked to a caller who narrated their journey of battling depression and transforming their life.

Vick admitted, “I remember wishing my friend could have heard this… I wish he knew that things could get better because maybe he would still be here…”
