The design worn by the illegitimate daughter of King Albert II on the great national day of the Belgians is very similar to the one worn by the Princess of Wales in the recent Trooping the Color parade
Princess Elisabeth turned heads on the day Belgium celebrated its National Holiday, commemorating the 1831 coronation speech of German Prince Leopold Saxe-Cobourg in which the new Belgian king swore allegiance to the Constitution. With the added celebration of ten years on the throne of King Felipe, her daughter displayed an unprecedented fashion arsenal wearing up to four looks in less than 24 hours.
But it has been another dress, specifically the one worn by Delphine Boël, the illegitimate daughter of King Albert II who was finally recognized by her father in 2020, the one that has gone viral on the networks. The princess wore a very colorful outfit for this festive day, as usual for her, but her most attentive eyes noticed a too remarkable resemblance to the look of another royal.
Specifically with the dress that Kate Middleton chose to witness the classic Trooping the Color parade, which was the work of designer Andrew Gn. The accusations that Delphine of Belgium had copied the design of the Princess of Wales were not long in coming. It is noteworthy that she herself had been the author of the look, in collaboration with the designer Ebru Sari, from the Belgian brand Atelier ExC.
Although the striking heart print created by the princess is a novelty, the cut of the silk dress was powerfully reminiscent of the one Kate Middleton wore a few weeks ago. The round neck, the long sleeves, the flared hem, the pockets, the buttons... all these elements took us to the dress of the Princess of Wales, as evidenced by the influencer specialized in royal houses Matta of fact from her TikTok account.
It was then that Andrew Gn, the Parisian designer originally from Singapore who had already dressed Mary of Denmark in an impeccable midi-cut coral dress for the coronation of Charles III, decided to take part in this little stylistic controversy when he shared several of the influencer's Instagram stories. He was even encouraged to launch a survey among his followers to find out if they preferred Kate's design or Delphine's, the British winning outright with 90% of the votes in favor of her.
Subsequently, the couturier used his networks again to clarify the commotion that had been organized over the alleged copy of his dress. "For the record, it doesn't make me angry to see Princess Delphine 'copying' Kate. Fashion belongs to no one and everyone is free to wear what they want. This is doing the designer a disservice," explained Andrew Gn.
For her part, when the Matta de facto account contacted her, the designer Ebru Sari limited herself to explaining that she had been inspired by a classic Chanel design for the cut of the dress, adding that they had incorporated "their own artistic touch". Princess Delphine herself, who also participated in the creative process, expressed her pride in wearing this "unique and fabulous" outfit on her own Instagram account, thanking everyone who contributed to her look for a historic day.
