Ben Affleck explains why he regrets his divorce from Jennifer Garner
Ben Affleck opens up about his alcoholism. The actor even admitted this time that his divorce from Jennifer Garner is the thing he regrets the most in his life.
“Shame is really toxic. There is no positive consequence of shame. It just cooks in a terrible, toxic sense of low self-esteem and self-loathing
The star was also very honest about his drinking problems: “I drank relatively normally for many years. What happened is that I started drinking more and more as my marriage fell apart. This was around 2015 and 2016. My alcoholism of course created more marital problems.”
Affleck's personal difficulties coincided with the time in which the actor filmed and premiered Batman v Superman, the film in which he first played the Dark Knight in the cinema.
The film was lambasted by critics and Affleck became a meme for an interview in which he appeared to duck after a reporter asked him and actor Henry Cavill about the critical reception of the film. Sad Affleck [Sad Affleck, in Spanish] was born.
That setback, added to the divorce, alcohol and the problems of production and promotion of the film The Justice League in which he also put a face on Bruce Wayne, made Affleck look with different eyes at the project for which he had committed to Warner Bros.: Directing a solo Batman movie with him in the lead. According to Affleck:
“I showed someone the Batman script. He told me, 'I think the script is good. I also think you'll drink yourself to death if you go through what you just went through again.
It's not particularly healthy for me to obsess over failure and relapse and beat myself up for it," Affleck added in his interview with the Times. “Certainly, I have made mistakes. Certainly, I have done things that I regret. But you have to get up, learn from it, learn a little more and try to move forward.
