Minnesota location pulling a David Chappelle show from its lineup this week following criticism it received for featuring a comedian who pulled transphobic jokes on a Netflix special last year.
First Avenue in Minneapolis was announced on Instagram that it canceled Wednesday night's show and the artists apologized to their crew as well as the community for booking Chappelle.
Different things have been said. The venue, known for its frequent appearances in Prince's 1984 film "Purple Rain," said the show would take place at the Minneapolis Varsity Theater.
“We know we have to meet the highest standards and we know we have surprised you,” the site wrote:
The Varsity Theater performed Chappelle's show on Wednesday and plans to do it on Thursday and Friday. However, the move didn't stop the show about the comedian's appearance at the new venue.
About 50 protesters "shouted, chanted and waved banners" in support of the revolution as fans filed into the Varsity Theater on Wednesday. according to the Star Tribune. Another Chappelle fan was hit with an egg. Some protesters asked fans to get out of line.
“Black men are so unequal,” one Chappelle fan said of the protests, according to the Star Tribune. "I want people to think about everything before making a big decision."
